Soradi Dance is an ongoing project which began in Tomar, Portugal and now continues both in Portugal and the United States.
Created by American-born artist/choreographer Shirin Stave-Matias, Soradi Dance originally involved the work of bothMs. Stave-Matias and multi-disciplinary artist, Fausto Matias.
Both were professional dancers for numerous years, working in NYC and performing/presenting work internationally. Later they dedicated themselves to developing dance and movement-based arts in central Portugal for sixteen years, creating and producing performances, festivals, classes, workshops, and other and socially engaging events for people of all ages in: Contemporary and World Dance, Creative Movement, Hatha and Chair Yoga, often integrating these practices with vegetarianism. Both artists have believed that these unique art forms cross all language, cultural, age, class, religious (and any other) barriers, and enable people to experience a uniquely fulfilling and creative life that enriches and unifies ones existence.
Both of their unique backgrounds have involved the development of movement-based work, where they co-created various projects and events, developing and presenting over the years: flash mobs and a variety of site-specific works that merged social engagement through dance, allowing people to become actively involved and informed through the experience of alternative practices. Most projects have been intergenerational in nature, with many fusing the use of site-specific, unconventional spaces or installations as an integral aspect of the work. Dance, mixed media exhibitions/presentations and an international contemporary dance festival, a solo project of Fausto Matias' that ran for eight consecutive years throughout central Portugal highlighting some of the worlds leading and emerging international dance artists, have been some of their projects over the years.
Currently both artists continue with their own separate projects; Mr. Matias focusing in Portugal and Ms. Stave-Matias returning to her birthplace, the United States.
We invite you to take a look at their past experiences, different projects and future plans...
